We spent $2800 on a like-new baby grand piano, plus $300 transportation cost. The original price for it was $15,000 so we got a pretty good deal from craiglist. We also bought a $250 lawn mower. As a result of all these one-time big ticket items, our net worth won’t grow as quickly as expected.
One good thing to counter all these big spendings and the costly housing move is my big bump in salary. Unfortunately, I will have to come out of semi-retirement and will have to work more than 180 days per year as the company needs me. Hopefully, it won’t alter my work-life balance too much.
Lastly, I discover that I already contributed close to $15,000 to my 401(k). I don’t want to max it out before the last paycheck of the year. Hence, the contribution rate has been reduced to 6% for now.
